Joy of Spring: ‘RISE New Year Concert’ at Atria Senior Community

Contributed by Zhe Tang

On January 11, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, Cary City Councilor Bella Huang and  Wenzhi Li, a key leader of the North Carolina Chinese American Federation, led local youth in successfully organizing a warm and lively “RISE New Year Concert” at the Atria senior community in Cary. The concert aimed to bring New Year’s blessings to the community’s elderly residents, enrich their cultural life, and create a platform for intergenerational exchange.

Youth Take the Lead: Dual Roles as Hosts and Performers

The concert was hosted by three young talents: Albert Qin from Cary, Jerry Li from Raleigh, and Teddy Tang from Chapel Hill. The three young hosts displayed poise, natural expression, and skillfully incorporated light humor into their presentations, creating a warm and youthful atmosphere throughout the event.

Melodies and Movements: East and West Cultural Fusion on Stage

The performances were rich and diverse, featuring piano, violin, and cello trios, solos, vocal performances, and dance. The opening trio, “Waltz No. 2”, performed by Teddy Tang, Anna Ding, and Gabriel Gamboa, was elegant and expressive, setting the tone for the concert. Following this, several young performers took the stage in succession, presenting a variety of pieces including the traditional Chinese instrument ruan performing “Happy New Year”, piano solo “Summer”, dance “Jiangnan Poetic Imagery”, and multiple classic pieces combining Eastern and Western elements, showcasing a rich artistic spectrum and cultural fusion.

Hosts and Performers Shine Together: Youthful Talent on Display

Notably, the three hosts not only guided the program but also performed on stage. After their performances, they praised and encouraged each other, demonstrating both solid musical skills and genuine team spirit. The concert’s closing piece, “New Spring Melody”, was performed collaboratively by Teddy Tang, Albert Qin, and Jerry Li. Its bright and lively melody brought the audience to a climax, concluding the concert on a high note.

Applause and Smiles: The Warmest New Year Gift

The audience responded enthusiastically. Many elderly residents expressed that the performance not only provided artistic enjoyment but also conveyed warmth and care. “Seeing the children perform in front of us makes us extremely happy—it’s truly a precious New Year gift,” one elder said with a smile. After the performance, many attendees expressed their gratitude to Councilor Bella Huang and eagerly looked forward to the next concert in their community.

Gratitude to Participants: Strengthening Community Bonds

Councilor Bella Huang expressed heartfelt thanks to the participating children, parents, and volunteers. She emphasized that active youth participation in community activities not only cultivates confidence and responsibility but also brings joy to elders; through musical and artistic exchanges, the community becomes warmer, more united, and vibrant.
